MENTALWEAR FIGHTS FOR YOUNG PEOPLES' RIGHTS
TO MENTAL HEALTH CARE!
Mentalwear's latest "Deadline" - campaign is a comment on the situation of
young people with self-destructive tendencies.
Over 90 percent of young people suffering of depression have also suicidal
thoughts. Almost 30 percent of them have also attempted to commit suicide.
Self-destructive kids suffering of depression need more treatment
facilities and professional attention. Every kid and young adult has the
right to receive help, support and acceptance. Every kid has the right to
be well taken care of.
This campaign also calls attention to the situation
of this special group in the Helsinki area. Koivula-house (a unit
specialized in the treatment of young people, located in the
Lapinlahti-hospital area) will be shut down in the end of 2007. The city
of Helsinki does not want to continue supporting this unit. What will
happen to all of the young people living in this facility?
Musician Kari Närhi, a father of a child suffering of depression, is
joining our campaign. Read
more on his project “An Open Letter”.
Pop singer Irina, Ville Tuomi, vocalist of suburban Tribe and Mariko,
vocalist of Kwan, have given their precious time to work as models for the
campaign.
Deadline campaign is also supported by Ms. Outi-Alanko Kahiluoto, member of
the Finnish parliament.
All profits of the "Deadline" campaign T-shirts go the recreation and
hobby facilities of the young patients at the Pihkapuisto reception and
evaluation unit in Helsinki.
